REVIEW AND SUMMARY (COMPLETE SEASONS 1-9) Robin: Ted, when you were dating me ,was I too independent that you felt not needed at all? TED: Yes! absolutely! Robin: Does that bothers you? TED: Yes! It bothers me.Sometimes it feels good to be needed you know... (asks the same question to Barney) BArney: Hell, nooo!!!! Listen, you are the most amazing person I ever slept with.Ooops,I mean have dated. You're just independent and less needy. That's what I love most about you! You're strong and incredible, very independent! (2 people with different point of views.Robin was more confused as a result :) I've watch it when Leo kept convincing me that it's way funnier and better than my favorite Sitcom -F R I E N D S.Of course,I don't think there's someone better than my fave SITCOM! So,to understand his point,I borrowed the DVD's for the first two seasons from him and started watching around mid October of 2011.At first,It's kinda boring .I also feel like it's a FRIENDS wannabe. However, after watching more episodes,I hated LEO for introducing me because I was hooked.I can't stop watching the other seasons since I'm Five Seasons behind. And before I knew it,I hated Leo because he was right. The show is very interesting and has it's own charms THOUGH I LOVE FRIENDS more.Nothing can ever replace FRIENDS... yet... I actually loved it.It's also all about LOVE,CAREER,FRIENDSHIP and FAMILY.It is unique in a way that they always end each episode with a MORAL LESSON .After every mistake done, which by the way made their viewers laugh they make sure there's something to ponder at the end of each episode and that's really cool. It'ts a sitcom that mirrors pretty much the American culture and society that is why sometimes I can't relate to any of the jokes because I'm Pinay who is so used of Tito,Vic and Joey's JOKES and some Erap and Mommy Dionesia jokes from time to time. But I have hugely enjoyed the show for nine seasons! Also,I think the show's main demographics are working adults. I kinda notice that SEX with a person they barely know seemed to be no biggie. It's like they can just go out on a bar, befriend a stranger and after a few hours, they ended having sex and then never see each other again. In my own opinion, what's the difference of it from a one night stand? Before someone kill me for being so stereotyped,I want to clear this out that I'm talking of the show's plot story. Also,I'm a cave woman who is not much exposed to the real world because I belong to a THIRD WORLD COUNTRY so if I ever say things that are REALLY OFFENDING that seemed to be good to be true to your taste, don't taste it.Just spit it and we'll be good. Despite the meaningless SEXSCAPADE of Barney or Ted's GIRLFRIEND hunting mission,Marshall and Lilly played the respectable couple.Of course, they have their very own issues from time to time. They have their ups and downs. They have huge fights as couples but theirs is more realistic and encouraging. They are each other's MARSHMALLOW & LILIPAD. Five friends living in NY, believed to be the coolest city on earth. There's Ted the architect.Barney, the womanizer who is afraid of commitment. He works at GNB and no one knows what's his actual job title is.LILY a preschool teacher and is married to Marshall,a lawyer.Lastly, weird Robin a news reporter to unpopular tv channel. She is still looking forward to be part of the popular news stations such as ABC and CNN someday. They have the coolest life on earth because they hang out more than they work and never run out of money and time. Also, they have the coolest friend Barney who can make the IMPOSSIBLE POSSIBLE.Ted who is always sweet and thoughtful and can really do everything for people he love.Robin who despite her weirdness and one million fears,he can really set aside all of those and change for the sake of those few people she loves.Lily and Marshal despite being married, they still have time for their friends. That's why they are awesome and legend, wait for it ...dary! Ted Mosby narrated the story to his kids in the year 2030.He talked about how he met his wife but he got into details and didn't actually speak only of his love life but he told more of his experience in life with his friends and his job and the challenging parts of his life.He has a very good memory of his friends. They are the highlight of his story.Without them, there would be no story to tell his kids. Back in NY,he was renting an apartment with his college best friend MArshall. They went to college together and were best friends ever since. Then came Barney,I can't actually remember how Barney became one of his BFF's but he was Ted's BFF just right on the first episode. Ted fell in love for the first time with Robin but they were not meant for each other so their relationship to each other is really complicated for the whole seasons.Ted dated other women but his love for Robins didn't change til the 9th season when he finally met the woman meant for him and he gave the closure to Robin telling her he still loved her,not just the same way as before. Barney has a very interesting family background. He grew up without any idea who his father was. When he was younger,he tried to confront his mom about his dad but obviously her mom don't want to talk about it so to stop him from asking, her mom told him that his father is someone who hosted his favorite game show on TV.Her mom actually made him believe . Actually Barney didn't have the courage to to search for his biological father because he is not ready. There were parts of him that is scared to face the truth. When Marshall's dad died, that convinced him to meet his own father. His first attempt broke his heart all the more because it turns out it was his half bro's dad.at least, his bro has a dad so he kept his hurts to himself. He just tried to be cool about it and made a joke out of it. He is BArney. He can be awesome as if he is not affected at all.Barney never ever showed his weakness in front of his friends .He prefers keeping things to himself. He seem to have like a dual personality. He seem to not care at all but he cares more than you ever know. He's not just showy. He considers problems and unpleasant circumstances as a challenge. That's how he thinks his strength is but honestly its kinda lame and he is stubborn. But he is indeed Legend (wait for it) dary.... What's amazing about him is he seem not to care but secretly he can do everything he can to help his friends even if it means sacrificing his own. He never expresses his affection and care in public but he is someone who helps secretly. He would boast how awesome his suit is Or how legendary he is when it comes to women but you can never hear him boast the help he extended to others. I think it is his defense mechanism not to show his weakness to others specially his friends. He has to be awesome or better yet LEGEN-dary as always, just as his favorite expression is. Barney got more awards as compared to the other casts.Aside from doing magic tricks, something he really does in real life not to mention he has the most interesting character of all in the show. MArshall on the other hand is a successful lawyer who works at GNB but after he reconsidered his college dream to be an environmental lawyer,he quit.In fact,he had a serious fight with Barney specially when he acted as a lawyer for Zoe's protest not to demolished the ARCADE.He was a big guy but is sweet and caring. He was the big bro of the group. He is also good in singing. He did sing in some episodes with Barney. After graduation,he and Lily got married. His relationship with Lily was being envied by most of his friends because even if Lily was his first serious relationship ,it was a matured one. They were perfect for each other. They tried their best to have a baby but after months of trying they give up.Surprisingly, the moment they give up,that was the time Lily got pregnant. It made them so happy but same time so nervous. Sure they have fights and misunderstandings from time to time but they just knew how to resolve their issues at the end of the day. It's just a matter of communication, understanding and setting of expectation. At the end of the 9th season,he has so much things to think about.Lily is pregnant with their second baby.Their plan to move to Italy over his career a s a judge. But in the end, they chose to stay in NY. Lily is a preschool teacher and a frustrated artist. She was in relationship with Marshall since college and they were together ever since. She once broke up with Marshall so he can pursue her dream but after trying, she realized painting as a job is not for her so she got back to Marshall and married him . Robin is her BFF.She's the mother of the group because she helps everyone to be in the right track or to be in reason.Lily can't lie specially to her friends because even if she pretends to,she always ends up telling the truth. That could be one noble character that she has that's why she has good relationship with Marshall. She calls her husband 'marshmallow'. Robin has the weirdest personality of all. She's Canadian who came to NY to pursue her dream as a news reporter. She was able to get a job as a news anchor to a never heard local tv station that not even her friends were aware it is existing. She went at Mclaren's to get a drink one tiring afternoon when she met Ted, the guy who fell in love with her on their first meet. She became Ted's friend and eventually introduced to his circle of friends. She dated Ted for sometime but they realized it's not working for them so they just decided to break up secretly so their friends won't know coz they just seem perfect.Their little secret was revealed later during Lily and MArshal's wedding. Robin is a mysterious woman with lots of secrets .She is very secretive about her life.Like no one knew she was a former teen star in Canada. That her BFF had left her when she got married. And from time to time, her friends would find out some of her secrets that really surprised them a lot.She also dated Barney. She's not much into commitment like Barney .So she's been on a lot of dates but still is aimlessly not finding someone who .She also hates babies. She's been through a lot too like being jobless for months, plus a visa expiring then comes break ups too.Her friends never left her during those times. It's so entertaining because no matter how stupid they were,at the end of each episode they left us lessons to learn from. They have been through a lot of stupidity that led to fights and misunderstandings but in the end, they realized things their reactions has created more problem instead of a solution. Like for Marshall and Lily ,arguing for the sex of their future baby is nonsense. So with Barney who thinks MArshall leaving GNB,a good paying job just to pursue his stupid childhood dream is lame. For Ted and Zoe,fighting over the Arcadian and arguing over small things all the time is not healthy. For Robin, commitment and having babies is the lamest reason to get married. We all have our personal belief's but in the end,do realized that what might work out for us might not be for others. So we've got to respect individual opinions .It's not about how good and right you are. What really counts is how you carry yourself in a way that you respect what they believe in and not offending someone no matter how right you are I personally believe that nobody is so stupid to believe in such things without any reason. They have certain experiences in life that convince them to believe and stand up for what they believe. For Robin, she believe in keeping things to herself because no one would be interested to listen to her drama anyway. It might be an issue of trust, fear to be exposed or vulnerability that's why she's acting the way she is.For Marshall,it doesn't matter if to others it seem stupid but what's important to him is doing the right thing all the time. It's not about taking sides but it is about being objective and directing others towards the right path. When Lily and Robin had a misunderstanding,Marshal acted as a bridge to reconcile them.Considering Lily is his wife,he didn't took her side.He knew Lily's attitude is not right so as her husband,he talked to her. This is about two people he cared about so he did the right thing. It just shows, friendship isn't about how much care and attention you can get but it is about how much you can give to create a memory for each moment. It's not about making promises that are meant to be broken but it's all about forgiveness, openness and acceptance. Just like what Marshall said to Lily,It's not college anymore. They have to deal with the changes. They are grown ups and change is part of their everyday life. They have to mature. They shouldn't be fixated to things they use to be but try to understand that they grow older each day and the things they use to do are gone, meant to be part of a wonderful memory. Ted got lots of them that's why he has a story to tell his kids. As a whole, they let me realized that no matter how imperfect and annoying friends are, sometimes what they need from you is our support, acceptance and understanding .Friendship is beyond just being together .Friendship is a deeper version of caring, sharing and commitment.Friendship sometimes means sacrifice,it is doing everything you can to help a person you care so much.Yet as years advance, realized that we change due to certain situations.Everything on earth is temporary and so we are.We might be surprised that the things we normally love doing might be so boring. The places where we use to hang out might mean nothing to us now.The things you use to be not be the same as we are right now. Someday, for sure some will get married, some divorced, some committed and some are not.The bottom line is cherish every moment as much as you can.So someday when you'll look back, you have no regrets because you did things at the right time at the right moment. Yes,friends can be there as always. One thing is for sure. For true friends they can't be exactly the same as they use to be but the heart still cares and the mind still remembers. And this sitcom let me realized that in life, there would be lots of surprises for sure. Some awesome, some painful. Some not so good, some challenging. We have to be open to possibilities.Every time a door shuts,a new one opens. It just depends on how we respond to certain opportunities. There might be things in life that we envy in others but it was meant not to be given to us so we will have something to look forward. That we learn to appreciate the uniqueness and beauty in others. Season 8 is pretty much about Robin & Barney's relationship and the preparation for the weding.Seemed that the writters have stretched their story covering the whole season. But the good thing the story is still uncompromised. The thing though is they are dropping hints of wrapping up the story so they can end it sooner. The fact that Barney stopped dating and started a serious relationship with Robin is an obvious message that they are wrapping the show. But it's been on air for quiet a long time so I think it's fair enough. But I like the turn of events in this season specially Barney and Robin's story. In fact, there were few scenes of Barney and Robin that were so beautiful making me cry out of deep awe and adoration. The scene when he pretended he was saving Robin so she can break up with her boyfriend. When he gave that speech,he really sound very convincing that made Robin believed him not until he told her he was just trying to help. His speech was obviously true but Barney make it like it's nothing. That was the first time he told Robin that lying was all he could do for the past 8 years for the best. And the best romantic and genius part for me was the last part of his playbook, the PROPOSAL to Robin. The fact that everything went well just as he has expected means he had been paying attention to Robin from smallest details in her life including her reactions and feelings to certain situation. On that roof top, when he let her read the lists and proposed right on,I was crying like crazy.Colbie Smulders emotion at the scene was also beyond acting. It was like all the emotions for the past 8 years was gathered and finally poured in this one specific scene and because I'm a romantic fool,I got carried away.Barney had also done some huge changes in his life when he suddenly is willing to do everything and to change anything just to make Robin happy. The unbriddled horse suddenly got tamed by the only woman he loved the most,Robin. THIS IS MY MOST FAVE ROBIN AND BARNEY SCENE ... Barney was sent by Lily and Robin for an errand-to pick a diaper in the pharmacy and something for Robin to which he considered a challenge accepted. In the pharmacy, he met a woman who can see the sadness in his eyes despite him trying so hard to hide his real feelings and fears.Barney finally gave in and had a chat with that woman. The woman challenged Barney to stop playing and win. When Barney went home ,he started writing the last challenge on his playbook titled "THE ROBIN" because of that random woman who directed his path.Turns out, that woman was Ted's future wife and that's how Barney met her. Lily & Marshal probably earned the attention of most working couples watching the show.It was really a huge generousity for the show to point out both the nice and the challenging part of being married and having kids.It wasn't like the usual where writters have to put their characters uncommitted inorder to maintain fluidity of the show.I mean it's like when they have each character on a good relationship,it means boring. But I never find Marshal & Lily's character boring at all.In fact, each episode was a delight to watch, fun and something that couples can learn from. Ted on the other hand was the balancer of the group. He kept everyone sane when everyone is going crazy.Ted despite being left alone had come to his senses and start to be serious.Ted who both knew how to baby sit Marvin.Ted who has happy with Victoria but still chose Robin in the end.Ted who at times thought his feelings for Robin had gone but still wasn't.But since he knew Barney and Robin are happy together,he decided to move to Massachusets because he thinks he can't bear the pain of seeing them Barney and Robin after the wedding happy together when he could have been in Barney's place. Over all,Season 8 to me was more of romantic and the bottomline of everything. After endless hook ups and sexscapades, the serious side of each character was shown but still in a funny way.The fact that Barney confronted and face his real feelings after eight years was bittersweet. And Robin with all her weirdness and all is both cute and funny. They also shown a bit of her romantic and sentimental side when she went looking for the necklace she burried few years ago promising she'll dig it up once she find her one true love and she did just a few days before her wedding. Ted was tired of his hooking up life.He started to think seriously about his future.I must say Robin is one lucky woman because both of her closest guy friends are much in loved with her. What's impressive about their friendship and relationship was their ability to accept and adjust to each and everyone's weirdness.I admire Robin for accepting Barney despite of who he is.Honestly,If I were Robin I would be freaked out or even torn with the decision because I'm sure I will have personal issues to deal with.It would be hard for me to marry a man who almost dated half of the women in New York city.Plus the pressure of sleeping with a well experienced man in bed is something. If I were Robin it would be too hard to chose between Barney and Ted.They are both two sides of a coin when put together creates a beautiful dime.I would probably keep them both as friends so I would not lose both sides. But since I'm not Robin, she went for Barney. "If you find someone you wanted to keep for the rest of your life,You do something about it" -TED QUOTED
"if you kept on talking about winning and loosing specially if we are talking about our marriage, then eventually youll lose me" -Lily **** "If you find someone you wanted to keep for the rest of your life,You do something about it" _Ted **** But love doesn't make sense. You cannot logical it all the way. It's totally nonsensical. But love is the best thing you can feel" -Ted to Robin **** You know what legendary means. Not real! I mean the man's initial is B.S! -Robin *** Barney:It's my wedding day, what do you think I am writing?! Marshall: Suicide note! Season 9 is the final season. It was dedicated in preparation of Robin and Barney's wedding .I somehow feel disappointed because they slowed down and obviously had prolonged the wedding story like there's nothing much to talk about. It felt like suddenly, the writers lost their awesomeness and decided to just play because they got bored. It was also the season of Ted's parents first appearance. Also, finally in the middle episode while staying at the Hotel in preparation of Barney and Robin's wedding. Also,Ted met the woman meant for her,FINALLY! I get the strategy. The title alone is very catchy that makes anyone to tune in wanting desperately to know who's the mother. And it's a genious idea because it works.Everyone tuned and with the endless hook ups and so it gets the show running for such along time still wondering who the mother was. Then when the show was coming to its end, they finally revealed her.So the thing is,the show should be called the "Life of Ted Mosby" And aso, they made it like a rewind because obviously, the screen time for her is very short. She's the girl with a yellow umbrella. Her name is Tracy McConnell. I really wish her screen time is longer.I find her funny and wild but down to earth.I also find her character extremely enteraining. So Marshall met her on a bus way home.Lily met her on a public transportation when she and Marshall where into a serious argument and she ofered her baked cookies.Barney met her in the pharmacy when doing an errand to which he made the last episode of the playbook for Robin. She dated Lewis but its not enough. They both stayed in the cottage where Lewis proposed. She said no and she went to Farhmapton Inn where the wedding was held. There's one room still available because Robin's mother is not coming. And at her saddest moment, she played her own rendition of La Vie Enrose using ukalele and Ted heard it and fell in love with her. I like her naughtiness but also her seriousness in things that really matters. She's full of wisdom and sense of humor. She said she took economics to end POVERTY! Teacher:what do you want to do with your life? Tracy: I want to end poverty? *** As for he,she met Ted long ago in school. She entered the wrong class and Ted made a corny joke which she laugh at real hard.Ted was dating her room mate at that time. Few funny scene Tracy: Is this what single life leaving in NY means? I don't know what to do with my life.I'm so lost" Ted: I kinda feel the same way,but I'm sure my ROMANTIC STORY is not what I needed right now.I want career change. **** man: Can I help you? her: Oh,thanks super man man:Can I buy you a drink? her: Oh,no.Thanks,I'm 16! man: Oh,sorry. You have a good night then her: You believed that? Man: Surprised and relieved her: sure, you can buy me a drink man: can we have dinner sometime? her: Oh,sorry but I fell in love to someone who died **** Also, there was an episode where Ted made a confrontation to each of the women he once had a relationship with before that includes Robin,a memory of their past relationship. So Robin's mother surprise appearance when she actually came at the wedding and he has a Kiwi Accent but Robin is Canadian.A few hours before the wedding, everyone has their own issues.Robin has cold feet.Barney has commitment fears and can't even make one decent vow for his wedding rite. And when Robin is freaking out she can't find her necklace,Ted gave it secretly to Barney so he can give it to her but Robin figured out it was from Ted and she felt overwhelmed how Ted really went through all those trouble just to get that locket for her. On the wedding day alone both of them were really so nervous and scared.Robin was in search of the locket but Ted gave it secretly to Barney. But Robin figured out it was Ted.She had her doubts and told Ted they should get married instead.Ted who had been with her through out the years.Ted who got her the blue horns. The guy who get all through those trouble to get her the locket. The guy who was always there with her.Robin was starting to doubt her decision of choosing Barney but Ted talk her out to return to reality. But Robin tried to runaway but she was stopped by Tracy. Barney on the other hand is so stressed making wedding vows as he don't have a perfect reference of couples who really stood up to their vows in their wedding day.Barney pointed out how Lily and Marshal were such a fail in their vows.So Marshal and Lily renewed their vows infront of the church where Robin and Barney are to be wedded.Barney saw them and he changed his mind. I love that moment when Robin is in deep panic and she was asked to take three deep breaths three times and when she opened her eyes, she saw Barney on the corner with pages of paper on his hand. He told Robin that he was looking for her to tell her his one and only vow,to be always honest with her because it is one thing that he thought Marshall failed to do with Lily. But he still thinks their marriage is still the greatest thing he knows off.And that cleared all Robin's fear and panic. Seemd that that everything took place even before the wedding rite. They said their vows, they kissed ...and they have the ring BEAR! aN ACTUAL BEAR! TED: Kids,I won't lie. That was a long weekend.More ups and downs than I can count...not everyhting along the way is perfect. Here's the secret kids.Non of us can vow to be perfect. In the end all we could do is promise to love each other with everything we've got because love is the best thing we do. MY THOUGHTS I'm not gonna lie either. As much as they have brought so much laughters,I still feel a bit disappointed because I waited for 9 seasons to see Ted's beautiful love story only to see just glimpse of it.It should be Barney who's doing the narration because it was more of him and Robin and it was their wedding that closed the show. I know the title is actually genius because it is what most probably are waiting to see and the agony of waiting for that revelation happened fully in the last season which is pretty much self explanatory. But I wish they also have given more to it.I actually wanted to think the title FRIENDS is also appropriate to the show if that's how they ended the show. But I have a huge admiration for Neil Harris Patrick pulling that playboy role.In real life,he's gay and it must be either fun playing that role or challenging. But he really played it well that no one would ever think he's gay in real life. That's how awesome and good actor he is.I also wante to think that because of his extra ordinary charm,he was more recognize and so it's appropriate to highlight his love story to end the show. Lily and Marshal's relationship is a fresh breath.I mean it was a huge encouragement to lots of married couples out there who after long years find each other boring.Lily and Marshal's character showed everyone that a couple can still have fun time and hang out with friends. The show was honest enough to reveal some challenges in marriages through them.Truth is,because of them Barney started to believe in love and marriage.I think one of the best compliment in the world is to earn respect and admiration from people close to you. From people who you were honest with and yet, they see you with such respect and admiration is a huge compliment. TED justified his role as the only one who's so sane when everyone is so out of control.Ted who stayed true to his friends.Ted who despite his huge love for Robin had endured such pain and finally gave Robin a closure, that Ted loves him only not as great as how Barney does. So it's true, you can't really unlove someone.Only,it changes. There are so many types of love. But there's this eros that sometimes it goes philial or sometimes the other way around. That got me really thinking.I must have not have known LOVE for real ir how come it hurts me when someone doesn't return thata favor to me.Maybe,I'm such so selfish that I only love myself that when people don't return that love that I have invested on them,I feel hurt and bitter. This doesn't apply to romantic stories but it also applies with relationships to friends, workmates and family. I really have so much to learn. And one of them is to learn how to love.I suck in all these thing.I know this is just a tv show based on fiction but some wise man says,"fiction is a story based in fiction that tells the truth".
