I was used and manipulated by Athena, she did not take my feelings into account. She was my master, in charge of passing on the sacred mysteries, of awakening the unknown force that we all possess. Whenever we venture into this unknown sea, we blindly believe in those who guide us, thinking that they know more than us. -ANDREA MC CAIN, STAGE ACTRESS « Athena’s great problem was that she was a woman of the twenty-second century living in the twenty-first, and making no secret of the fact either. Did she pay a price? She certainly did. But she would have paid a still higher price if she’d repressed her exuberant self. She would be bitter, frustrated, always worried about “what others will think”, always saying “let me solve these matters, I will devote to my dream later”, constantly complaining of “the ideal conditions that never occur”. -EDDA, PRIESTESS “People create their own reality and then become their victim. Athena rebelled against this and paid a very high price” -HERON RYAN, JOURNALIST. ZAHIR in Arabic means visible, present, incapable of going unnoticed. It is someone or something which ,once we have come into contact with them or it gradually occupies our very thought until we can think of nothing else. This can be considered either a state of holiness or of madness....
In Buenos Aires, the Zahir is a common 20-centavo coin; the letters N and T and the number 2 bear the marks of a knife or a letter opener; 1929 is the date engrave on the reverse. In Gujarat,at the end of the 18t century, the Zahir was a tiger; in Java,it was blind man from the Surakarta Mosque who has stoned by the faithful;in Persia,an astrolabe that Nadir Shah ordered to be thrown into the sea;in the Mahdi's prisons,in around 1892 ,a small compass that had been touched by Rudolf Karl von Slatin... The ZAHIR was a fixation on everything that had been passed from generation to generation; It left no questions answered;it took up all the space;it never allowed us even to consider the possibility that things could change TENGRI-it's a sky worship. It's a kind of religion without religion If you're someone who experienced real love yet been hurt over and over again, this book is for you BACKGROUND AND SUMMARY
The book is autobiographical, but told from the third person. It deals with the exorcism of personal demons and discovering one's strength. It also deals with relationships among people, in this case, Paulo and his wife. Together with her, he embarks on a journey through the soaring heat of the Mojave desert. During the 40 days journey, surrounded by doubts and temptations and entering their innermost conflicts and questions, they met the valkyries, strange warrior women. The plot involved Paulo going to the Mojave Desert to meet "the Valkyries" themselves, a group of warrior women who travel the desert on motorcycles. At the beginning of the story, "J"(master), Coelho's master in RAM, shows him a copy of the poem by Wilde that says "we destroy what we love" and this theme is central to the story. A SHORT STORY
“A powerful wizard, who wanted to destroy an entire kingdom, placed a magic potion in the well from which all the inhabitants drank. Whoever drank that water would go mad. “The following morning, the whole population drank from the well and they all went mad, apart from the king and his family, who had a well set aside for them alone, which the magician had not managed to poison. The king was worried and tried to control the population by issuing a series of edicts governing security and public health. The policemen and the inspectors, however, had also drunk the poisoned water, and they thought the king’s decisions were absurd and resolved to take no notice of them. “When the inhabitants of the kingdom heard these decrees, they became convinced that the king had gone mad and was now giving nonsensical orders. They marched on the castle and called for his abdication. “In despair the king prepared to step down from the throne, but the queen stopped him, saying: ‘Let us go and drink from the communal well. Then we will be the same as them.’ “And that was what they did: The king and the queen drank the water of madness and immediately began talking nonsense. Their subjects repented at once; now that the king was displaying such wisdom, why not allow him to continue ruling the country? “The country continued to live in peace, although its inhabitants behaved very differently from those of its neighbors. And the king was able to govern until the end of his days.” QUOTABLE
One advantage of of living in a small village, without making the slightest effort, you can learn all there is to know about a person's life There were two things that prevent us from achieving our dreams: believing them to be be impossible or seeing those dreams made possibly by some sudden turn on the wheel of fortune, when you least experienced it People want to change everything and at the same time, wan it all to remain the same Good and evil have the same face; it all depends on when they cross the path of each individual human being The only reason anyone would sell salt more cheaply usually would be because he was desperate for money.Anyone who took advantage of that situation would be showing a lack of respect for the sweat and struggle of the man laboured to produce it QUOTABLE
By the River of Piedra I sat down and wept. There is a legend that everything that falls into the waters of this river-leaves,insects,the feathers of birds-is transformed into the rocks that makes the riverbed. If only I could tear out my heart and hurl it into the current, then my pain and longing would be over, and I could finally forget May my tears run just as far ,that my love might never know that one day I cried for him.May my tears run just as far, that I might forget ther River Piedra..the mists, and the paths we walked together Seek to live, remembrance is for the old...perhaps love makes us old before our time or young,if youth has passed ...I write to try to turn sadness into longing, solitude into remembrance So that when I finished telling myself the story,I can toss it into the Piedra |
