This indie gem directed by Connie S.A. Macatuno tells the romantic journey of two women who plunge into forbidden love. Juliet is a conservative pre-school teacher who hires Rome, a liberated wedding planner for her upcoming nuptials. They become close and develop a romance that becomes a huge scandal after the groom and their families discover their affair. Together, they face the trials that come with their unconventional relationship. FROM AN ONLINE REVIEW Although she’s not new to shedding skin and portraying sexy roles in her film, Andrea del Rosario admits that she found the role of Juliet very challenging. And despite the fact that her curvaceous body is usually the first to be noticed in her stints, her acting performance was what stayed in viewers’ minds after seeing the film. Critics raved about her nude scenes with co-star Rafael Rosell. Rome and Juliet is Del Rosario’s first indie film. Andrea del Rosario and Mylene Dizon continues to wow viewers with her versatility as she takes on different roles for her movies and television shows. Now, she showcases her sensitivity as an actress with her role as the open-minded Rome. This role also won her the Best Actress Award in the 2006 Cinema One Originals Digital Movie Festival last November. Jury chair Robbie Tan praised Dizon for her “convincing portrayal as a wedding planner who falls in love with the bride. THOUSAND THOUGHTSI have watched this twice few years ago and I just thought of watching it again for the third time but still gives me the same feeling I felt watching it for the first time. It really has a way of affecting me deeply. It wasn't perfect but It was so far the best lez movie I have ever seen produced locally. There were obvious flaws. There were instances that I feel like the director what to do in between intense scenes but they are just minor flaws.Other than that, the content was beautiful and the on screen chemistry was undeniably moving. It was natural. This is also the first time I have seen all the casts in a Filipino movie fitting their roles so well.Kudos to the casting director. It didn't feel like a cheap make out at all of two ladies. It has an important real story to tell.Kudos to both girls who chose indie films – where the pay isn’t good, but the opportunities for creative explorations are prevalent. The execution of the story from beginning to end show cased a Filipino culture and values such as the significant candle lighting to crowded streets of running tricycle, jeepneys and sari sari store on the side. Or maybe I haven't seen much local films that I have not much to compare with. I love how they focus on the natural love story of two people who happens to be both women who are both secure and happy in their respective relationships. It wasn't the typical abused from previous hetero relationship, struggling, confused or endless family issues and develop a relationship with the same sex either as a scapegoat or rebellion or worse, anger and retaliation.Just two women who have one day met and they were connected body and soul just like that. I can identify with the struggle of making important choices. It is really unfair how you are all hurting, both of you and those you love and it puts you into this hellhole and you have to deal with the pain on your own but the thing is, whatever choice you chose, still someone you love gets hurt. If Juliet decides to marry Marc who really love and adore her because that's the right thing to do and that is what's acceptable in our society, she'll end up as nothing but a wife and her happiness set aside. If she chose Rome, everyone she loves will hate her, pretty much her family will disown her. If you were her, which one will you chose? It might be just too easy to say your happiness over theirs but I don't think it is easy like that in real life or if you were in her situation. She is respected both by her family and everyone around her.Her family depended on her. She's very much family oriented and cares a lot about what other people think of her. From that alone,I don't think she's the kind who will chose her happiness over theirs. I think some people would rather chose to sacrifice her own happiness for the sake of her family specially Filipino culture. Our family expects too much from us specially if you are the eldest in the family and you are the one working and single. All the financial responsibilities are on you. I really appreciated how the they tried to make the movie as real as much as possible.Yes,it has shown true Pinoy values and struggles but there were still relevant reality that weren't shown. You see,the reason I have deeply loved this movie ( first local film I have ever been obsessed with) was the way it made me feel and changed my perspective. The culture, the humor, the age, social status, the real issues, the choices, the emotion everything just feels so right for me.I also have to point out how much I pity Marc so much because he's a good decent man and yet,it will eventually come to an end. I feel sorry for Mark but at the same time rejoice seeing Juliet how she was so happy that night while Mark was so damn worried.Yes,Juliet cheated and that's definitely unacceptable but why did it feel so right? How come life is so unfair like that? Neither any of them expect this things to happen, they didn't see it coming,no one asked for it and yet they fell in love.Does it mean they have to act on it? What if it was just a phase? A glitch to life? I actually feel so unfair why we get into these things we didn't ask for.Why we have to be different and fall for the hard ones. Why can't we just fall in love to a decent man,get married ,have kids no drama. It wasn't even an issue centered of being gay but an issue of falling in love and be tangled into something that makes you feel so in love, safe, loved and secured but at the same time the source of too much pain and misery. It might be easy to others but if,I were in Juliet's situation,I think I'll go insane.I cannot afford to be too selfish for my own happiness but I can't afford to live all my life tied in a very unhappy relationship. It's too much! To everyone who have worked so hard to produce this beautiful movie from directors, writers, casting crew, editors, camera man and specially to Mylene & Andrea,a huge huge thank you! I raise my glass for all of you and I wanted to send you all my love! Thank you! I am so proud of this incredibly ,beautifully written and executed! There's hope in Philippine cinema through Indie films! Mabuhay po kayong lahat! More projects to come!
