Okay, let me tell you something.Maybe, this is the only Sparks' book that I really got so bored. It was a really LONG RIDE!!! I can't even remember if I finished it till the end because it took me months to read it.I mean,I'm not actually sure if I finished it! Maybe I did because I can remember some stuff.I'm not so sure really. Well, why did I get bored? I don't have that butterfly feel on my stomach or I didn't get emotional in this particular book.I felt nothing even on the letters that usually makes me teary eyed in his previous books. Why oh why!? Either I've out grown Sparks,or maybe I don't like how things are going in his recent books or maybe,I've outgrown romantic stuffs already.Or maybe,I'm just simply old and my preferences are now changing. No idea buddy but I'll try to remember. SUMMARY & REVIEW
Uggg, can't remember the names of the main charactes anymore! That's a good start don't you think?! Anyways,Ira Levinson is 91 years old when he is involved in a car crash. At this point in his life, he's in poor health and all alone in the world. While he struggles to regain and retain consciousness, a blurry image of his beloved late wife — Ruth, who died nine years prior — urges him to hang on. Ruth does this by recounting stories of their lifetime together. She talks about everything from how they met to the precious paintings they collected to the dark days of World War II and the effect the war had on their family. Ira knows that Ruth can't really be in that car with him, but he holds on to her words for dear life as he relives the highs and lows that were part of his long marriage. Only a few miles away, Sophia Danko, who is recovering from a recent heartbreak, meets Luke. Luke is a cowboy and nothing like the clean-cut boys she's dated before. Through Luke, Sophia is introduced to the world of bull riding, where success and even life and death are at stake every day. They fall in love, and Sophia begins to imagine a future with him — but there's a secret that could tear them apart. Ira and Ruth. Sophia and Luke. The two couples have nothing in common, but their lives do run parallel and will eventually intersect. And through it all, they will learn how resilient the human heart really is. So to cut it short,Luke and Sophia found an old man in a poor state while driving down the road and rushed him to the hospital.Since Ira got no family to look after him,the two stayed and temporarily look after him making Sophia found out more about Ira's love and life story. Few days after, the biggest auction was announced attracting businessmen from different places. This was the biggest auction ever held in the history of their home town.Luke and Sophia attended surprised to know that the items belongs to Ira Levinson, the same old man they have rescued a few weeks ago.Auction day came and Luke and Sophia doesn't even have much money to auction an item but they are so determined to atleast have one item in remembrance of of him and his great love story that inspired both of them. The auction started with a painting of a woman, probably a child's work and most auctioneers find it not worth their money. But Sophia and Luke knew about the story of that painting. It was Ruth's picture painted by her fave student that they treated as their own child. No one is willing to take it so Luke bid for it also ending the auction all together. According to Ira's lawyer, who ever buys that painting buys it all, hence all went to Luke and Sophia.Look what luck has brought them both! It wasn't planned at all but it seemed that they are paid after all in the most unsual day.Chinese and some other religious call it fate or luck. Some call it good karma.I call it ,oh what do I call it? I'm not sure, maybe what you planted you harvest. I can't remember but a few years ago,I read the same exact short story about a a father who held an auction and the man who bought his son's ugly painting took it all.I'm not sure if Sparks took the concept from their or it's just a coincidence. AS much as I love how Sparks came up with two love stories one from the past and one from the present generation,I just don't feel the genuineness anymore unlike the previous books he made.It felt like he was rushing for some sort of deadline and that's the thing when an amateur writer gets recognized,it's no fun anymore because it's about the money and revenue over passion. But I understand of course, since most of his time were spend writting then I guess it should be fair enough to make an income out of it.It's just that due to market demands,it felt like his books were forced to meet a deadline. It felt like he was MADE to write and not him wanting to write something that he really wanted to write. I can't say much about this book because I got really bored and it was too plain anymore. For me,it lose it's romantic charm or again,it was just me who got old and falling in love to a Nicolas Sparks novel is no fun anymore. A cheerleader beauty falling in love to an out of school rancher-typical and awkward. An old man stuck on his car for hours and hours reminiscing his love story, well it's romantic. In the end, when he finally made the connection,I was like "oh that's why" I got confused what's going on.I was trying to guess whether Ira was somehow their grandfather or something. But no,the twist is cool but the ending is kinda predictable and so plain. I'm not sure of the next Sparks book gets better or maybe not.Sorry, this is the first time that I got really so HUGELY disappointed with his book.
