THOUGHTS ON THE MOVIE
ON LIFE EXPERIENCE I believe that the kind of experience you have make you.Whatever kind of hardship we go true,at one point one day you just maybe do a fist pump and utter " thank you" for the experience you have that you once thought is hard to deal with. I also believe that the kind of experience we have can either make us or just break us depending on how you take them. When you are living for someone or you have to live for someone,I think more likely you make sure you do everything for those you love. This movie is " painfully sweet". Chris as a father,as a husband,as an employee,as a citizen like every aspect of his being seemed to have fallen into pieces at that time.Like anyone who would be in his place at that time have all the reasons to give up but he never gave up.His son get him going. He must be strong for his son. In his autobiography,to what I understood,he seemed to have devoted his time to his children after his wife left him. There was no account of any other marriages except that he worked hard until he established his own business eventually becoming a CEO and same time philanthropist. ON FATHERHOOD He grew up from a broken family. He spent most of his time in foster care thus he made sure his own life experience will never be in a way experienced by his own son. He was always there for his boy, protecting him making sure he'll grow up with a father. Chris Jr cannot remember being homeless when once asked even as an adult. All he could remember was they keep moving and it was all an adventure for him. He and his son would sometimes spend the night in a comfort room or mostly in a Methodist shelter.Chris kept all the pain to himself making sure he will one day provide a decent home and education for his son. WHAT MATTERS MOST;HE WENT FOR IT.PERIOD. He is the founder of GARDNER RICH,a CEO,businessman and Philanthropist. He supports the Methodist church who sheltered him and his son when they were once homeless. He offer permanent jobs whenever possible and supports many shelters as a way of paying back to those who once offered a shelter to him. AS AN INTERN: WORK ATTITUDE One day,he walked passed a man in a nice suit with a nice Ferrari car and asked what his job was,he was told he's an estate broker to which he got interested and went to apply for internship with the hope of getting a decent job someday. During his internship,he mingled with different types of individual. Some were really smart and impressive but he made a huge difference in his attitude thus getting the job. Unknown to him,he was put to test by his superiors.Even if he was financially broke,he still knows how to to give or share.Even if he was unappreciated and was treated like he doesn't matter,he didn't complain about it.He was just grateful and hopeful that one day he'll get the job.A day before internship ends,he got the job thus the start of his success story. Good things happen to those who persist not those who wait but those who find ways and go for it. PERSISTENCE.ENVISION IT AND GO FOR IT I love the fact that Chris took responsibility on his own financially. He worked his ass off.Even if he was broke,he didn't ask for financial help from his wife or any from his family. I believe that the heaviest debt one can have is being indebted to others.Or to make it deeper,we call it "utang na loob".He faced his own problem hence he is not indebted to anyone. Being indebted to anyone is like being indebted all your life. You cannot escape for it no matter how much you try to repay it,the truth is it's hard. Quoting from Wikipedia... "In the hope Gardner's story would inspire the down-trodden citizens of Chattanooga, Tennessee to achieve financial independence and to take greater responsibility for the welfare of their families, the mayor of Chattanooga organized a viewing of the film for the city's homeless. Gardner himself felt that it was imperative to share his story for the sake of its widespread social issues. "When I talk about alcoholism in the household, domestic violence, child abuse, illiteracy, and all of those issues—those are universal issues; those are not just confined to ZIP codes," he said." PERSONAL REFLECTION This movie had me reflect on my work attitude.I have taken so many things for granted now that I am a bit secure.I was once a broke kid.I grew up in a broken home.Suffered from physical abuse.I have faced the worse nightmares a child could face and I promised myself I will do everything I can until I get myself out of that hellish pit and I did.I have no idea how but I'm sure it's full of so much pain that at that time I wanted to die and have thought of suicide lots of times but there are people who genuinely care for me.Now,I'm here. I've made it here. Somehow,I'm burdened for not giving back.If given the chance or if there's one thing I would like to work on,it would be the education and family issues back home.I'll be so happy to see more and more children be able to get education instead of working so hard.At such early age,all you could see are working children supporting the family and all.I hope child labor be address back home. This is probably one of the areas that I would definitely work on if given the chance. THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS. One can always wish for it but if you don't pursue then you won't have it. I have come across so many things about happiness in different perspectives. Some believes “Happiness depends on ourselves.” Others believe "it's the Ultimate Purpose of Human Existence".Other's believe "no one is born happy,it's a choice". Of course, all of them are true. It's how they see it.I think what makes a person happy varies individually. Just like Chris' life,he literally got nothing but his son but he made his little boy his ultimate happiness and the rest followed. What a great inspiring movie!
