Aurora: Would you like to come in? Date:No,I would rather stick a needle in my eye! REVIEW What could be worse than having puffy eyes for crying too much at 3am watching TERMS OF ENDEARMENT! I love the movie but I hated the feeling it gave me.Shirley Mclane and Debra Winger nailed it! I have heard or come across this movie lots of times and I really wondered what's in it.Now I know. It's all about the cute kids! And of course the story is close to reality. It's not superficial or over acting. It's just close to reality.A family story that covers both the ugliness and beauty of it. I have noticed too many unique things on this movie as a form of terms of endearment atleast in my own opinion.Like seriously,I was expecting different WORDS being used her refering to the title but instead,I discovered a non verbal terms of endearment and I never actually though of it if I haven't watched this movie. STRONG PERSONALITY First of all, seems that Emma was raised by a strong woman.A woman who live by the rules.A woman who can get along by herself and that is why she doesn't like Flap because she knew he's not that strong man who can protect her daughter the way she protected Emma. Also, her first born son inherited that character. He was indiffernt. He acted like he is so angry with the whole wide world but Emma knew her son is not just expressive and good with words. Her second son though is the opposite of his eldest. He's so cute specially when he's crying in bed giving her mother a kiss... MOTHER & DAUGHTER FRIENDSHIP They have been and were close as ever.Despite the differences and the argument,in the end a mother is a mother and a daughter is a daughter.
GREETING KISS At first,I was surprise why Emma always kissed Patsy in the lips specially when they were in her bedroom smoking.I was expecting a lesbian affair but turns out, that's how they greet each other normally.Sorry,I forgot that was an old movie and I was watching at this current time where it's not normal anymore to display such affection because you'll be labelled as lesbian. Also,it's cute when even as adults, she still kiss her mother in the lips. DON'T LIKE YOU BUT I LOVE YOU This is a sad but funny terms of endearment in Aurora's life. She's having a hard time adjusting with the changes in her daughters life and it's just funny because I can definitely say you can like someone without loving them but you can love someone even if you don't like them. Aurora don't like the man her daughter married.Even after having three kids, she still doesn't like him but in the end,she just accepted it.She also was disgusted with her neighbor who dates women half her age.But despite all those intial feelings she have for that austronaut, she nevertheless show intention and escalated their relationship to the next level. She invited him over to her house and she was the first one to tell "I love you" She also has issues with old age.She doesn't like the idea of being a grandma but in the end,she fully accepted it.Aurora's date is always funny and weird but he's sure he's in love with her and he shows up just in time. He's a man that a woman would find hard to trust but also, not hard to love. I actually love the actor who played that part because he did it fantastically! He's really funny and romantic and un predictable like he's that kind of guy who is funny-weird-mysterious but romantic. HIGHLIGHTS
I think the best thing that I love about this movie is how both Emma and Flap hold on together till the end. There's too much in the plate.Financially, they are broke with three kids to support and one parent working. There's this mother who doesn't accept the husband, who even didn't attend the wedding of her one and only daughter. There's adultery in between which of course confusing.I'm not sure if I understood but it seems that both cheated on each other and haven't really talk about it in a deeper sense.Yes,it was brought up but they just let it go in the end. The point is,the problem go on and on.People can be part of it but at the end of the day,it's you and yourself that you have to be accountable with. What happened if they just broke up? I'm so glad, that was the time where when things are broken, they fix it.They don't jus throw it away. Currently,I rarely see couple who stayed in love all through the years despite the issues each day.In my hometown,I knew lots of couple stayed til old age as a responsibility and routine, like a bondage. There's no love,no warmth, probably never made love to each other in years and that's so sad. I love the depth of the story.I love the acting.I love the beautiful babies in the movie.I feel the intensity of each emotion.I like a boyish Debra Winger.Specially when they making out and she's got bad colds but still kept on doing not until one baby come one after the other. Another fave highlight is seeing OLDIES cutely flirting each other.I just can't help smiling the whole time! It's funny and sad and really worth my tears. It's been a while I haven't cried this much.I love how passionate and calm and funny. I loved it! I might have cried but there's acceptance to it.
