The President: Few of us are given the opportunity, even fewer the courage to sacrifice ourselves for the lives of our comrades. In daily life, even as in battle each one of us is mysteriously and irrevocably bound to our fellow man. And yet, it is only in death that the power of this bond is finally tested and proven. And who among us really knows how he might respond when the moment comes? Colonel Serling was task to investigate Army Capt. Walden's case, the first woman ever awarded with medal of honor.
During the investigation,Colonel Serling found out that Monfreiz got Captain Walden killed. She stayed with her wounded soldier and waited for rescue. When rescue came, she let her soldiers go first covering for them instructing one to return for her but Monfriez falsely told the pilot Capt.Warden was already dead much to the terror of the group. Captain Warden was a loving mother and a dedicated soldier. What she really did was a heroic sacrifice.I must say the politics in the armed forces is really shocking. Meanwhile,Colonel Serling was burdened of the incident during the gulf war where he caused a friendly fire accident killing one of his closest friend. It was a mistake but instead of coming clean, his superiors covered the truth from the bereaved family instead. I'm far from understanding anything that goes within the military but I love watching war movies as an appreciation to our brave soldiers who chose to commit their lives to defend our country.Although today,I cannot fully say that's what it is due to heavy political greed but my heart goes to the lowliest and bravest soldiers who served our country with honesty. Going back to the movie, for some reason I just find it weird seeing Meg Ryan for the role.It just doesn't suit her considering she was always representing a lovable sweet girl in romantic movies and all of a sudden, she was playing a serious role. I just don't see any badasness in her as expected in her role as a captain.I don't know.Maybe I'm just so used to seeing her in sweet romantic movies. Washington on the other hand has this serious military vibe that makes him fit for the role.I think most of his movies has something to do with a bodyguard,a police officer or a military. He just have this secret, deep and serious look that just qualifies him perfectly for the role. I really wonder why most war movie lines have too much swearing! I mean,do all soldiers really communicate that way.I don't have any problems but I just thought it could be a misrepresentation of the army. What I love about this movie is it's audacity to make a war movie in a spiritual sense. It's refreshing to watch and I recommend it specially to people who are not much into war movies.
