A movie that I both hate and love. It's hard not to love it in some ways but it's also too painful that I hated it.Maybe It has something to do with my admiration with Nicolas Sparks' as one of my favorite novelist but at the same time disliking his recent works. I have read the book of course and it was heavier to take than the movie.Maybe it was somehow made lighter by the the cuteness of the actors or maybe the setting or maybe it's easier for me to feel things when reading it. I will make my review quick by pointing out some issues that had struck me the most.Of course I cannot just expect things to be in my favor but as a huge Nicolas Sparks fan for many years,I have certain expectations of his work.I feel like his older books and movies are way more passionate than the recent ones.Don't hate me but I will just give my honest feelings or maybe I'm just grumpy with too much expectations today. STORY I feel the story is rushed and painfully heavy almost annoying to bits.It was hard to imagine how a man like Dawson could ever live a life that is beyond unimaginable.I don't know maybe it's just me but I just find the story too heavy. He was in love with one girl for the rest of his life.Well, that's expected in a Nicolas Sparks story but to be stupid for the rest of his life? That's a different story. This was the heaviest character so far that I have ever come across in all his books.Like my gosh, could it be anymore heavier? How mentally challenged his father was? What kind of father would kill his own son? What kind of family keeps on hunting each other? There's not much happiness in the characters.Yes he fall in love with one woman for the rest of his life, typical Nicolas Sparks but the feel good part in between is missing. That kind of charm he usually puts in his male characters is gone. PAIN PAIN HAS DEEP ROOTS.THE ONLY THING TO DIG IT OUT IS TO FORGIVE THEM AND YOURSELF Dawson lived a life full of regrets and didn't move on.It means he didn't grow up at all.Like seriously, did he have any aspirations at all? Like the girl is willing to give her all to him,how stupid can he be not to reciprocate such love? He lived the same life in years running away from a past that can't be changed anymore. He blame himself for his friend's death. He don't see himself worth to be loved. He just let his father and brothers bully him. That's not being gentle and humble anymore. That's stupidity! I can speak boldly of this because I have also came from a hard life with a difficult family situation but I didn't just went running away feeling sorry for my life.I did something to somehow improve my life.I have moved on from everything and all I feel now is freedom from the bondage of the past. So what Buck said about pain is true.Do something, forgive and move on. Well,of course this is just a fiction but it's nice to put some healthy realistic perspective. LOVE OR STUPIDITY Girl made the first move but then stood up lots of times. She literally threw herself to him but how come he keeps on running away from her.She is willing to give her all,but he has the lowest self esteem who cannot fight for the woman he loves. If you doubt yourself in your ability to love, how can you love others? Twenty years after, they reunite again. They spent a few days and rekindled their love for each other. But things are different now.Amanda married with kids and a husband waiting home.As grown ups,you have to take full responsibility of your relationships. You don't just go home telling your husband you are in love to someone you've spent with a few days? I mean hell! But they love each other! Sure they do but istill doesn't justify the affair. An affair is an affair period.Or should I say time will come where we cannot find any sense in marriage vows anymore? Or we cannot find couple who stay within the limits of marriage. Welll, what do I know.Besides this is fiction for god's sakes! I made my argument so let's drop it. Anyways,I wonder how it feels in reality seeing your child with the heart of the man you once love so much.If you have his heart, will you feel more like the donor? It's a stupid question but I really wonder. CASTS Acting in most scenes were crappy. No onscreen chemistry between James Marsden and Michelle Monaghan.I don't know, maybe it's just me but I can't workout what's missing in them. On the other hand,Bracey and Lierato have some connection somehow. The girl is so beautiful and It might be too much but I kinda find her face a bit mixture of Megan Fox and shade of Miranda Kerr.I don't know. OVERLY ROMANTICIZED How is that all the girl needs is to be physically attractive and she gets to keep a guy who will love her for the rest of his life? Too much romanticized I think. Or how is it that the guy always think he doesn't deserve the love of a popular girl because you know he's way out of her league.Well, that's a bit possible but to spend the rest of your life protecting someone and yet the only thing she wanted from the guy is for him to commit love.I actually think that's where we are mostly in trouble with. We watched romantic moview where infidelity and affair seemed so easy to deal and escape with.As kids,we watch Disney movies where a princes waits for her prince charming. And then when we grow up,we are still stuck with movies that are mostly far from reality. I'm pointing this out because when I was younger,I lived believing everything I see in movies. When I grew older and experienced the real world, its usually far from it.We have social responsibilites and moral obligations to begin with.We have families to protect and we have kids who look up to us. Everytime I watch a romantic movie and I started to get carried away,I have to get back on track and remind myself these are just for entertainment only and do not depend on them. Sure they can inspire us in some ways but believe me,it's not as stupid or as easy like this. In terms of entertainment, there were good scenes to enjoy.I still like the conservative vibe in terms of setting such as the house, the garden and the flowers. The way they dress etc.
If you are a lover of nature, then I bet you will enjoy the scenery in this movie too!
