I grew up more familiar with Miss Universe than Miss World because of the pictures of beautiful ladies in bikinis wearing a sash printed with the name of the country they represent on my brothers' lighters. In all fairness,it helped me memorized mostly Latin countries such as Mexico,Ecuador,Brazil and Puerto Rico because of this beauty pageant. Anyway, there's no Miss Universe this year, really ODD but well, business wise they have their reason. I actually I don't care that much anymore because I'm looking forward to Miss World this year and the next coming years. What made me favor Miss World over Miss U,I will discuss it later. Meanwhile... Congrats to Miss World's 2014 winner,Rolene Strauss of South Africa!!! Miss World was held at ExCel London on the 14th of December attended by 125 candidates from all around the world. Miss Young in one of her interviews said she chose Miss World because she wanted to be part of something with a purpose not to give insult of course but I think the purpose of Miss World is clearer. Prior to Miss World finals last year, there were certain predictions that she's gonna win.Well, they were right! Megan has that charm and beauty worth the crown. She has that positive warm and friendly aura that makes anyone comfortable with her .They did say the moment Megan set foot in Bali, she already won their hearts. "What you see in Miss World today is totally different from what Miss World was before...From girls parading in bikinis, you now have ladies bringing in their own projects...to present at the Miss World competition," says Megan... My fondness to Miss world started last year when Megan Young compete for Miss World and she was all over the news.I got interested and I started doing research online that includes reading all articles related to Miss World and watching old videos of what was said to be the best and memorable years of the competition. I was literally amazed with all the information I've found out.Turned out,It was a beautiful organization created as a beacon of hope women all around the world. One of the vent's highlight this year was presenting the honor for Mrs Julia Morly, the Chairwoman of this organisation for her hard work making Miss World not just a beauty pageant but transformed it into " beauty with a purpose pageant". Recognition and honor was given to Mrs Moore for her hard work in maintaining Miss World in years.Three beauties dedicated the song "you raise me up" which was beautifully sang. Another memorable event for the night was the awarding of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan for her continuous charitable work. She became one of Bollywood's highest-paid actresses and model receiving several awards and nominations. Her off-screen roles include duties as a brand ambassador for several charity organisations and campaigns; she is a Goodwill Ambassador for the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS. This year, her charity focused on free operation for kids in India suffering from cleft pallet. Also,I would like to highlight the loud cheer from Pinoy fans from the crowd cheering for Megan and Miss Philippines. The energy from the crowd is really crazy! It was a lovely competition.I can't help being captivated by Miss India. To me,she's the sexiest and most beautiful among all contestants. I'm so satisfied and happy with the result of the competition.Miss India was awarded top model.Miss Malaysia won the talent competition and best in sports was awarded to Miss Finland. In the Beauty with a Purpose section,(the heart of Miss World) contestants present a charitable project they have been working on in their homeland. In this section, the judges gave equal first place to Misses Brazil, Guyana, India, Indonesia and Kenya, unable to separate them. The other project who made it to top 5 includes clef palate operation, another focused on education and infrastructure, some on medical help and other on violence and abuse. They were really issues that we have to work on globally and of course the contestants who came up with these projects mostly came from something that really inspired them to pick certain issues that they think is a big issue in their respect countries hoping to raise awareness. This year's event has been rocked by the murder of Miss Honduras, 19-year-old Maria Jose Alvarado, who was shot dead along with her sister last month. Police in Honduras accuse her sister's boyfriend of shooting them after seeing his partner dancing with another man at a party. "We hope that it will really start to impress on the people in Honduras that the violence, and hurting people like those two innocent women... maybe they can think again before they take a gun," Miss World chairwoman Julia Morley told AFP. What a tragic one.May she rest in peace... Moving on,we now come to the final round of the competition, the Q&A portion which for some reason we thought is one of the most awaited moment of the competition. The answer is simple and the same for all of them.It goes... "Why do you think that you should be the next Miss World 2014?," In the Q&A,all did well except Miss Hungary.Well,I appreciate her transparency. Her answers were really honest and personal which was good but she was cut by the host because she spoke too long without making her point.I feel sorry for her, she's obviously nervous but she could have not gone through certain embarrassment if her coach should have brief her more. The question is always the same every year and is the same for everyone so I think,it's safe to prepare an answer to the question prior to joining. Miss England made good points but it sounded bookish. Miss USA will certainly make a good speaker and leader. She speaks with conviction. You can feel passion in her words.I agree with Miss USA,it should not just be a beauty pageant but there's so much more than that.It showcase beauty with a purpose,to stand up,to voice out to make a huge difference. My favorite and also the crowned Miss World 2014, Miss South Africa has the simplest heartfelt answer. To quote," My story is bigger than my face on the cover. It would be an honor to represent Miss World and be a beacon of hope to the world" as she thinks it is what Miss World symbolizes. She deserves the crown indeed... Oh,did I mention I had a huge crush on Miss India?! Well,I won't stop saying. She's just phenomenal, captivating sensational beauty!!! What a beauty! Congrats to all these courageous beautiful and fearless ladies who chose chose to be a beacon of hope.Indeed, they were a source of inspiration and well, maybe a source of huge debate to misogynist :)
