Good news! Tonight in Bali Indonesia, Megan Young was crowned as the most beautiful woman in the world! A crown brought home from Miss world for the first time!
Megan is 23 years old actress,VJ and named one National Peace Ambassador. She won the title TOP MODEL,placed 4rth in Digital Media and 11th in Beach Fashion during the Miss World competition! Amazing! Though this is not Miss Universe,It's like she completed what Venus Raj started. She diverted the attention of the world to a true Pinay beauty with brains when she placed 4rth runner up in Miss Universe in 2010.The following year,Shamcey Supsup placed third runner up and last year,Janine Tugonon almost took the crown being the first runner up in Miss Universe.I wonder what would be the turn of events this year. But so far,we started with so much hope and with Megan crowned as Miss world! Horaaay and Mabuhay Pilipinas! Congratulations again! It's been amazing to be able to witness Megan as she grows in the showbiz industry and now turned beauty queen.Being in Showbiz and maintaining good image is very impressive and I'm hands up to her.She started in GMA's Starstruck back in 2005.Three years after, she was spotted at ABS CBN Pinoy Big brother. She's done movies and Tv shows both from ABS and GMA prior to becoming a VJ.I'm sure she'll be a very effective positive influence considering her experience including showbiz. It's also incredible how Filipino's are very supportive till the crowning day. There are two favorite major events that Pinoys usually look forward each year,Many Pacquiao's fight and beauty pageants! ( Oh,make it three, let's include the senators pork barrel scam. Congratulations Megan Young! You have no idea how you've made the country happy for winning Miss world despite the crisis going on right now! May you continue to be a good influence and carry the mission that you are bound to do.Despite the heavy protest from Muslim citizens in Indonesia, things had gone pretty well for you!Come home safely! Your country awaits you! Meanwhile, there had been speculations going on few days before the crowing day that she might be disqualified due to some nude photos she's done for a magazine.According to them,a crowned beauty queen should be a good example and that she should be very responsible in her actions.Well, two days after, she was crowned as Miss World 2013! There was also a protest going on from Muslim citizens claiming this event is a direct insult to their religion and also a form of pornography.Non Muslims can laugh at them easily for being too uptight but one cannot question what they chose to believe. To them, that's against their moral values and I respect them for that.To show respect, the beauties were made to wear a more conservative Indonesian clothes instead of the usual bikini wear during beach body competition. I read some blogs of feminists activists who are also protesting against such competition because too them, it's too sexist. They believe such things exist to satisfy men fantasies. They feel women are only displayed as sex symbols when we can do better than a naked cover of a magazine or a product that has nothing to do with them.Well, that is very insulting of course to be paid just for your nude photo but it's your choice. In terms of beauty pageant,it's a different story.Any one can see it in any way he wanted to.Some men might see it as a fulfillment to their fantasies. For fashion designers,it could be a new fashion inspiration. For beauty product endorsers,it would mean more revenue. For a very small percentage of people, they believe that it should be an instrument to raise global awareness and women empowerment.I wonder in what sense exactly because after beauty pageants, all we could remember was the name of the person crowned and the beauty products they've endorsed and the attention they get from media specially here in the Philippines.I would be really impressed if they present a recap of all the works each beauty queen has done before turning over the crown each year.Did they accomplish what they ought to do? Did they use their title to be of positive influence? It could be yes or no. I have certain say on this but it's just my humble opinion. What seems right to me might not be for others. My thoughts on this? Well,I'm just a huge admirer of beauty pageants and fashion shows.I'm just amazed how powerful a woman's beauty can be.I think the morality of it depends hugely on how we perceived things.I once read somewhere that says "Two people can look at the same object and will see two different things".If you're a feminists and such things offend you then I bet the best thing to do is to stay away from it.A man can watch a beauty contest sexual fantasies but I wanted to believe there are some few men who might be watching it because they are passionate about it or they don't have any choice because their wives asked them to watch it with them.Well, who knows. We are in a totally crazy and very open culture right now so I guess people can do whatever they want but I wish they do it responsively. As long as no one is abused or harassed then I think it's fine.As long as those beauties are treated well and not force to do things against their moral values. In the end,the bottomline is we have to draw limits. And by drawing limits I mean meeting halfway. And I guess to be able to meet halfway,we have to learn to respect and adjust.
