QUOTABLE LINES
" I've often underestimated what I could accomplish in a day ,I had underestimated what I could do in a year. But most of all,I learned that it's possible for two people to fall in love all over again, even when there's been a life time of disappointments between them" I can't wait to write my review on this one.In fact,I just started reading this last night and while I'm on the bottom part of the story,I feel like grabbing a pen for my review.Well, despite my excitement and all,I managed to finish it today during my shift and here I am writing my review for it.
Anyways, this is a marriage story narration a lawyer named Wilson Lewis who married Jane, the first child of Allie and Noah (the notebook).Wilson has been a good family provider. In fact,he worked hard for his family but it never occurred to him that this also took away his time from his family. After 30 years,he faced a painful truth. His wife seem to fall out of love and he knew it was mostly his fault. The kids were all grown up and moved out and he realized there's emptiness not only within the house but between him and Jane. At times,he even doubted why Jane married him considering their huge difference. He grew up from a silent and less enthusiastic home and was raised as an atheist. He studied hard and rarely had extra curricular activities. He's shy and workaholic. He's the opposite of Jane. She came from a more loving and warm family. She is free spirited and easy going. She came from a family where laughter is always part of the evening dinner. She took up teaching in College and was working as part time student where he met her.Despite his shyness and seriousness, she always talk to him every time he came to the shop.He felt something for her the moment he saw her.And when Jane asked him to walk her through her car,he knew this is the woman he wished to marry someday. They got married administered by a judge since Wilson was an atheist.Though Jane always envisioned her ideal Christian wedding, she has not much option but to go for it.After all,it involves respecting each others chosen belief. They were blessed with 3 kids.Anna was their eldest. She has a dark deep personality and very independent.Their second child Leslie has a light bubbly personality. She's likable and easy to be with. She loves romantic movies and she's into romantic stuff.Their youngest is Joseph who lives in New York.He is the epitome of modern youth .Joseph calls him "pops" . After 30 years of marriage,Wilson realized how much he was busy at work that he failed to even pay attention to his family. He don't even know what's going on with his family. He was the good provider but being a father and husband is doubted. When the children move out, they took along with them the enthusiasm and love and all the joyful noises that they shared in the house were gone too.And more importantly, he realized how much he loved his wife but had never actually displayed or showed it to her and it pained him so much to seeing her cry.It all started the day he forgot their 29th year anniversary. He came home as if nothing is special meaning he totally forget about it.His wife was expecting something but he totally forgot. The pain and anger he saw on Jane scared him.He though he might be loosing her.So before he went to Noah for constant counseling.Noah who always spent all his time at the pond feeding and talking to a specific swan who never left him.He believed it was Allie but everyone thought he's just sick and became delusional.Only Wilson respected him that's why he confided everything to Wilson and vice versa. The more time Wilson spend with him,the more he came up with an idea of how to win back his wife.Wilson knew that he was never that romantic as compared to Noah but he's got to try. After all, this was the environment of Jane in years. She's use to seeing her parents being so much in love. While things between him and Jane seems awkward and it's hard to talk about something anymore,Anna came one day with a very important announcement-that she's getting married and she wanted her mother to be as involved as possible.Jane's days were always busy helping Anna for the preparation and for the first time in years,Wilson saw how genuinely happy she was.In fact,it opened a new window for both of them. They have something to talk about on evening dinner or during breakfast.Wilson took a long off from work to devote more time with his wife. That is to COURT her again if that's what it takes to bring back the old days,to make her fall in love with him again.Everyone was so busy with the wedding preparation.Wilson had the old family home be repainted. He even hired a landscaper to fix the place and make it lively and livable again since it had been rusted and seemed abandoned in years after Noah left.Jane was acting as the worried bride to be.The typical woman who worries about the caterer, the dress, the guess etc..etc..and Wilson loved what he's done.He also volunteered to cook for their dinner which surprised her. It made her wonder sometimes if he's having an affair because how he was acting recently like a changed man! Then before the wedding day,he made a major surprise for Jane.He arranged a little game for Jane to follow until she came to the place where he is waiting for her.She look beautiful even in blindfolds as she was escorted by a hired chauffeur to bring her to him.Jane was really so surprised that Wilson was true to his promise,to finish the renovation within a few days. She was so happy of how much work and effort and time her husband had devoted just for her that she ended kissing him.A kiss that had never been given in years.A kiss of passion and longing and gratefulness. And Wilson made them a dinner. And they reminisce the pass. The memories they shared in that house including Allie and Noah's love story. They talk about everything.Their kids, their love story, their parent's and how they have endured 30 years of being together. And they made love.Over and over again.Like a new couple who was on honeymoon. And the wedding day came. The kids and families where there, and it was only then and there that he told Jane,it was her wedding !That Wilson used Anna's situation as a perfect excuse for the preparation.A christian wedding just as she envisioned her wedding to be.Something that Wilson should have done many years ago! Classic and very romantic.WIlson was right,he might have failed her but a man can change and he did! REVIEW My excitement to write my review for this book is undeniable.I never thought this book is this good and very romantic.Made me want to fall in love right now! I love this book for a lot of reasons.First,no one died in the end like his typical books and the same way no one got divorced or no one is coping up from being divorced.Second, the heavy emotions involved here was out of plain happiness and excitement and not feeling sorry for the character/s.I cried for each book that Sparks ever written but this time,it was tears of joy and overwhelming love.It was very different from the other books he wrote. His characters were either a divorcee or someone coping up from a family lost or break up.The setting was not the typical ocean or sea side .The character is not an ex marine or ex navy.He wrote the book in such a positive way, like it's more realistic and full of passion.Instead of loosing a relationship that has been on rocks,it was an indirect encouragement to couples out there that they can actually rekindle their love and make it even better despite the damaged that has been done.Unlike authors who seem to encourage infidelity as an easy escape that eventually led to divorce.I wonder why this book was never made into a movie? Did they consider the public might find it corny and may not like it? because that's the thing, reality is sometimes rejected because a lot would want to escape ,a way to avoding the truth. Of course,SParks is always romantic in all his books but this one is different. He focused more as a family oriented guy and that's one of the best things I love about his books. He treated women as Princesses and he handled them gently .He treated women in his book like a fragile package. He knew exactly how to ge t a womans heart and I bet most of his audience would be women of different ages. His book may even look like all the same for some but as for me,I never find it boring! I also love this book because it was an extension of my ever favorite "the notebook".Though I didn't get the chance to read it,I watch it where in Allie and Noah died in the end.But this book was saying Noah was left behind holding on to the promise of Allie that she will be coming back.I also got to know more details of their married life.I also just found out through this book that Allie was an artist and that their love for each other went deeper and deeper as years advance. That is so rare I think in real life! During evenings, sometimes they still dance together like they do on the first day they met each other while the kids sneak out in the dark just to watch them secretly. One major difference that I also spotted is the combination of DEEP REQUITED LOVE AND SENSE OF HUMOR that has never been that much in any of his other books.I was laughing and crying all at the same time but with the same feeling of envying how happy family they were.I laugh first about Noah's rants of being treated like a child but it was true. It's family thing of course to care for your elderly but the elderly felt like they were babied.ANd I love how Noah would always say "gotcha" like when he was brought to the hospital because he tripped on a tree.ANd he joked about staying there hours and hours until a racoon attacked him and he loved the reaction from his girls faces. Also laugh when he joked about being followed even when he had to pee.NOah really got a lot of sense of humor in this book.Like when everyone was so excited to show him the newly renovated house and his first reaction after seeing it was " i thought you said you made a major renovation on the house" and everyone was wondering if his eye sight was even clear now. I like the positivity of the story.I like how Wilson choose to fix the things that he can still fix and leave the ruins of yesterday.I was also impressed of how much Jane's love and understanding for him changed him in time, that includes his religious beliefs. He was an atheist before but marrying Jane opened him to what this faith is all about. He finally understood the miracle of love and the beauty of God's creation.Though Jane asked him favor to go to Church with him not forcing him to believe what she believes,in time he understood it on his own and that made it so authentic on his part.HE choose to believe not because he's doing a favor but he choose to believe because it was illustrated in his life. Then I guess, testimony is still the most powerful thing in this world. Also,I love the line "hello stranger" that Jane used everytime she's teasing Wilson. It's kinda cool and flirty. I can't help but be impressed with this one! I have been to almost all Sparks books but I have never had this upbeat happy and excited feeling of expressing what I think about the book. Now,this is what I call classic! It has a class because it was like a fairy tale made real! Here in Manila,Just last month The ZOren-Carmina wedding has trended and had been the talk of the country for a little while now.Like when you go online (youtube, twitter, instagram, facebook, yahoo) you'll see a lot of personal opinions that points to one message.WOMEN envying Carmina for such a very nice surprise from Zoren. But When I read this book,I was wondering if by any Chance,Zoren has read this book where he got an idea.Just kidding. It was automatic for me the moment I finished it.I was like,it was somewhat like what happened to their wedding. What could be best in this world than to be surprised this big by the love of your life on such a very romantic and sacred event of your life! For sure, this has brought tears of joy to a lot! Personally why am I so drawn into this. When family and love are involve it makes me teary eyed for one obvious reason. It is the 2 things in my life that I haven't fully enjoy and experienced as being part of.People who are and had been into a lot of relationship usually say most of the things I read or watch are just fantasies and is very far from reality. And I for not having the chance to experience atleast once thought and felt like it was real.Maybe it was my fantasy too. When I first read "message in a bottle" the first Nicolas SParks book that I've ever read, there's something to it that really caught my attention. And here I am with the book the wedding.Something that I can relate with in terms of my fantasy.I always wanted to be part of such family were love is always present in every corner of the house. If only I could turn back time and change an event in my life,I choose to ignore my pains and be happy instead.IF there's one prayer that I would ask right now and forever, then I would ask him to bless my FAMILY with LOVE,UNITY AND HUMILITY.I think we can actually be as one big happy family if only such things also existed in our family as a natural thing, how I wish it should! A very beautiful life story!
