Welcome to Kiangan,Ifugao Kiangan is a 4th class municipality in the province of Ifugao, Philippines. According to the latest census, it has a population of 15,448 people in 2,692 households. Locally spoken languages include Tuwali, Ilocano,Ayangan, Tagalog, and English. Kiangan is the oldest town in the province. It derives its name from Kiyyangan, an ancient village near the bank of the Ibulao River across the Lagawe valley. The name Kiyyangan is enshrined in Ifugao mythology and is believed to be the dwelling of Wigan and Bugan, the mythological ancestors of the Ifugao. Here's how this exposure started... BCC is CHCC's daughter church in Kiangan and CHCC was pretty much involved all through out the years and has maintained a close fellowship with BCC. On the year 2008,Kuya Migz and Kuya Marlon along with Ate Shil came up with the idea of pushing our first Mission Exposure in Kiangan. They have it scheduled on semester break so all CHCC's youth can join. There's one huge financial problem but the two managed to get a sponsor for this mission trip. It was to expose our youths and to open opportunities for us to evangelize and teach the good news.It was a blessing! It's packed with fun, sharing, getting to know each other deeper, surprises and also challenges.Over all,it was a beautiful fellowship and was a blessing individually.
Just checking the chicken :) But of course, the memories of this Mission Trip is endless. So let the pictures do the talking. Here are the highlights of our Mission Exposure. BYAHE PA LANG,MGA EXCITED NA It was really freezing inside the bus so we had noodle soup to warm our bodies. The cold weather in Ifugao starts from early September til February.I personally find January & February as the coldest months of the year. It's an eight hour bus travel from Manila. We took off 9pm from Manila and arrived in Kiangan around 6 0r 7am the following day. HIGHLIGHTS FELLOWSHIP WITH BCC Bon Apetite,Mangan Taku! I cannot explain but there's something about the weather and place that keep our appetites up.Who would not when our dinner is Tinolang Native Boneless Chicken ala Marjan and Chicken Afritada by ate Maque :) Tips kapag oras ng kainan
GALA MODE KIANGAN WAR MEMORIAL SHRINE A gigantic steel-and-concrete structure stands commandingly at Linda, Kiangan overlooking the town proper and the capital town of Lagawe to the east. Officially called the Kiangan War Memorial Shrine, it was erected in 1974 to commemorate the end of World War II in the Philippines, and fittingly in the place where the last battles of the war were fought. The Shrine is located in Linda, Poblacion, 300 meters from the municipal hall. It can be reached by taking a short ride or by walking. for more info: http://kiangan.gov.ph/?page_id=53 KIANGAN CENTRAL SCHOOL & IFUGAO ACADEMY Located in Kiangan is the Kiangan Central School old home economics building, which marks the spot where the highest Commander of the Japanese Imperial Army, General Tomoyuki Yamashita (also known as the Tiger of Malaya), surrendered to the Filipino & American Forces on 2 September 1945. The Ifugao Academy was established in 1926 by Miss Myrtle Mary Metzger, a missionary of the Evangelical United Brethren Church of America, thus having the distinction as the first high school in Ifugao. It opened classes on June 7, 1926 in a rented house owned by Mr. and Mrs. Madarang in the area where the present UCCP church now stands. The first class was composed of 21 First Year students, 15 boys and 6 girls, coming mostly from within Ifugao. There were students from Nueva Vizcaya, Isabela and one each from Ilocos Sur and La Union. In December 1941, the school was closed due to the outbreak of World War II. During the War of Liberation in 1945, the large main school building made of stone blocks and hardwood was destroyed by aerial bombs. In June 1946, the school re opened with classes held in tent covered classrooms. From 1946 to the present, Ifugao Academy continued to exist and operate without interruption in spite of the proliferation of many public and private high schools in Ifugao. Despite its comparative small size enrollment-wise, the school has had and continues to have a significant contribution to the development and progress of Ifugao. Many of its alumni have been successful leaders in their respective fields of endeavor in the community’s where they live.
