"Girls is an American television series that premiered on HBO on April 15, 2012. Created by and starring Lena Dunham, Girls is a comedy-drama following a close group of twenty-somethings living in New York City. The show's premise and major aspects of the main character were inspired by some of 26-year-old Dunham's real-life experiences." -source Wikipedia MAIN CHARACTERSOut of curiosity,I tried reading each character's biography on Wikipedia and I was really amazed of what I found out.I found out that most of the actors personal life has a bit of resemblance to the character they are playing on the show.Did they have their characters inspired by their true personality on purpose or was it a coincidence? AS ACTORSKirke is a fine arts graduate in real life and she introduced herself in season one as an artist. She said her character on the show was inspired by her personality in real life. She and Lena were close friends since College days.Just like her character on the show, she's from London but grew up in New York. It's just impressive because she didn't lose her British accent.I like her character as Jessa for being free spirited and open minded. Also,I kinda enjoy her being unpredictable. I particularly loved her eyes. There's something in there that says naughty and mysterious.Of all the characters on the show,I like her in terms of playfulness and fun .Despite the shitty stuff in her life, she knows how to have a good time. She's very entertaining, there was never a boring moment with her . As for Williams, she's simply gorgeous and I have a huge crush on her.I actually thought Kirke's character fits Allison better because she's got the typical cheerleader sort of representation but in all fairness, she justified her role as Marnie. In real life, she's one of the youngest of all the characters but she seemed to be the most matured and uptight one.She might have played the protective best friend or the matured and responsible one but she also have serious issues.Nothing's much said about her relationship with her co stars but her mother is a producer at NBC so I guess she's used to in the industry. Her character on the show is very serious at times but naughty and it's really just beautifully weird. In one of her interviews, she said that there are some parts of Marnie that's nothing like her and there are some that's exactly her.Hmm,I wonder which part she's referring to.But over all, she's doing great and I really like her very much so far this season. I found the character of Mamet as Sosh extremely hilarious but very sensitive.I know it was meant for fun but I feel tenderness and compassion for her character too.I love her because she's a perfect representation for some people who struggled from lack of self confidence and experience.I like the fact that she's surrounded by three very different people but I also think her lack of self confidence is in a way has something to do with them.Maybe she's being overshadowed. But I would really love to see her character grow in the show so that it will serve as an encouragement to others.I'm definitely looking forward to it.I would love to know how she address her issues and what challenges that are soon to come moving forward. Dunham is the busiest among all the characters for creating the show, writing and playing one of the characters.I was really impress how much she achieved at such a young age.I admire her boldness to open a bit of her personal life in public as she said the show is personally life inspired. The nudity, the sex scenes, the personal confrontations such as her weight issues and her career as a writer/ producer/actor and the choices she made. It's just impressive.I think,of all the characters, she's got a crazy but very challenging life and I would love to see how she would develop each season. And also,I would love to watch the episodes that she wrote herself and how she would address those issues and conflicts her character will meet in the show as well as from the show's critics. Adam.At first,I was like what's wrong with this Adam guy? He's like a sex machine without any purpose in life but before the season ended, the revelations about him made me teary eyed.Turns out,he is sweet and thoughtful and he's just trying to challenged Hannah to grow up and mature.Turns out he is very protective and he's got these other personality that no one would have expected of him. It's just a sweet revelation and I love the twist of the story. Alex is seriously funny in a way.I could not imagine how disastrous it might be if he's partnered with Marnie.Well,it won't happen because he don't like Marnie at all.I would like to know how far his relationship with Shosanna can go and the chances if he and Marnie will ever date. ON THE PLOTI'm honestly not sure if I enjoy the show because of the story or because of the characters and the actors. There's part in the story that I don't like but there's a huge part of it that made me reflect specially given the fact that this is a story of women my age.It talks about day to day life challenges at work,at home and within circle of friends and their individual romantic relationships or flings.Major part of the story has something to do with meaningless sex.I have to admit I've laugh and was entertained but it doesn't mean I approve the sex jokes because honestly, sometimes it's too much.Well,it's their honest life so who am I to validate if it's decent or not.In fact,I think that's what acceptable in their society and culture so I wouldn't comment on a culture that I don't have any idea or even experienced. I will always be culture shock every time I'm watching an American sitcom and I tried my best to enjoy it and understand. But I admit,I am still shocked at times because of the huge cultural social difference.I just feel the sex scenes and jokes were sometimes vulgar and very offending as a woman but I understand that they were just being honest.I would be a hypocrite if I'd say I didn't admire them for being upfront. They are the voice of this generation an women my age. That made me feel like I was 40 years older making me a boring 40 year old serious uptight old woman when I am just their age. As a whole,I love the show.It makes me laugh real hard and then suddenly makes me reflect on it.Some few examples were the crazy relationship between Hannah and Adam.I think no matter how bad a person we think they are, there's always goodness in them.It depends on how we choose to see them.I think of Hannah's career.I'm a working adult and seeing her struggle so much to find a job made me appreciate my job even more.It also goes with life in the city.Life in the city is very challenging specially financially ,how much more if you're in NY where there so much things going on.It's so hard to catch up. I also love the moment when Hannah and Marnie confronted each other after a huge fight for lots of issues including responsibilities in the house.I really wish I have shared a room with a friend so I can learn to adjust. So I can overcome the art of sharing. So I can be challenged sometimes and learn to go out my comfort zone.Well,I always disliked sharing my room to anyone so I don't have any idea what challenges there are.But I have been renting my own place so I know the pain when sometimes you have to pay the rent on your own including the electric and water bill to avoid disconnection. And my favorite of all is when Jessa shows her vulnerable side. It's just so cool to see her surrender to vulnerability. At the same time,I love it when she lived like she doesn't care in the world. She don't over analyzed things.Maybe I love that part in her because I'm the opposite and people like her is always very interesting to me. I'll definitely look forward to the next seasons.I do hope that it gets better and will stay longer. There are really lots of stuff to look forward to so I'll save some space for next season.Well, that is if the writing is good and it won't go really dark like how most of the tv series I have been watching. In the spirit of celebrating the show,I love reading other people's thoughts and I come across this blog that is totally opposite mine and I just saw her point.Well,we have all our preferences. It's just very interesting.
How I felt about the first season of Girls via totalobnoxioustwat This show is not good. I’m sorry. I wanted to love it. I even watched the whole fucking goddamn season. Every episode. Every week. I did not miss one. I watched a few of them twice. I talked about it with friends, discussed the points of with my feminist husband who also watched the show with me and fucking hated it. But at one point, in the 2nd to last episode, it clicked for us. Why is this show a piece of trash? Is it because it’s about rich girls in New York and it’s supposed to be about the women my age who are coming in to our own? Is it because the characters are all hateful, spiteful people who fuck up the lives of everyone around them? Is it possibly because it has no grounding in reality? Maybe just that the writer is the main character and the director and lead actor and it’s a horrible vanity piece for her? No, it’s something way worse. Girls doesn’t know it, but it’s a sketch show. Spoilers ahead, not that they matter. In the first couple of episodes, Hannah’s boyfriend is a fucktard. He lies about wearing a condom. He doesn’t seem to want to even be with her. In the last few, he is pretty much obsessed with her. He wants to move in with her. Well he may have changed, you say, but no. The only thing that changes is that in one episode he asks to be her boyfriend because he thinks that’s what she wants and then after that, they are totally in love forever, even though he had been an asshole to her previously. Hannah’s roommate is kind of a prissy girl and Hannah’s British friend is a free spirit and crazy, and they do not get along. But for some reason they decide to hang out and go get drinks one night. That’s not an issue. The issue is that they meet this guy that the snobbier girl likes and all three of them go back to his apartment. As things progress, he’s trying to set them up for a threesome. Then for some reason the two girls start making out and are uninterested in him. He gets mad and tells them to leave. So they do. And then this is never mentioned again. Never. These two girls who barely like each other make out and neither of them ever mention it to Hannah or crack a joke about it or ever bring it up again. And then in the last episode, the British woman marries the boring skeezer guy. So, none of these characters really have congruence with each other for more than one episode. Sometimes it’s only a scene and then they are totally different. I know the characters are supposed to be unlikable and I would love to like or dislike them but they change so often without precedent that I don’t even get the chance! This is just a sign of awful writing. If she wanted to write a sketch show, sure, do that. But I cannot see why this show is supposed to be good. On top of that, the direction in the last episode was horrendous and it was actually her directing it. I wanted to like it so bad but it’s just an awful vanity show written by a bad writer. After finding out the writer, Lena Dunham, is the daughter of a well connected artist I understand how it got made. I wouldn’t even bother to watch it if I hadn’t already started. The only reason I finished it is because the actress who plays the British character is fantastic and her character was the only one who seemed real, until the last episode where everything ceased to make sense. If a show with female characters that was good was on, I’d love it. But this isn’t that show, and it’s definitely not the voice of my fucking generation.

The reason I like HBO GIRLS so much is because it captures an essence which mainstream Hollywood has lost.
