If you got a friend that you know does bad things, I mean real bad things, and you still keep him as a friend even though you know what he's like, do you think that's wrong? -Easy All you got is your friends. -Odell Let me tell you a very boring tale because I just can't help it. I was so thrilled to watch this after I found out through JB's interview recently.(Yes,10 years after and here I am watching it!) Denzel Washington had been my first and only fave actor since 2007 when I watched his movie with Dakota Fanning "Man on Fire" . Since then, I have started a movie marathon to all his movies and I have loved him even more. Like JB, he was so conservative and very protective of his private life. What draws my interest and adoration to both actors were the feeling of anonymity. They don't make headlines that much unless they have work to promote. I just recently found out about Beals through LWORD (again something she did 7 years ago) and I haven't stop searching anything and everything about her online. If watching all old movies, interviews and even to the point of patiently reading gossips on line, chats and random blogs borders to OBSESSION then I'm guilty! Cheadle and Washington with Beals all one film is a treat for me. Cheadle on this movie has this bad boy "I don't- give- a- fuck but -I -can -kill -for- my friends" character. He is the kind of person you can count on when in trouble. Washington has this controlled mysterious face that you don't want to mess up with. He also seemed like a gentleman who can give you the greatest lessons in life even without talking. Beals on the other hand has a natural seductive voice and beauty. She possessed a never aging face and body. She's one of those very rare women who age backwards! I have seen celebrities younger than her by 15-20 years that she can outshine in terms of youthfulness. On her interviews, one question that she was asked lots of time was about her beauty secret. Her advise? She sleeps a lot as much as possible, she exercises, she drink lots of water, don't smoke and SEX! Yes, sex is always on her list when ask. Okay, that's a bad news for me. But well, good news to her husband.Who will not be turn on easily by her?? Sorry, I have cross the line. THE STORY I thought the title suggest Daphne must be a manipulative bitch using her charms to get what she wanted but surprisingly, it was a beautiful political story without sounding too political. Easy Rawlins was broke almost few months behind bills and when a job opportunity as an informant was offered he took it without knowing what he has gotten himself into. His job is to find Daphne's address but on the process of getting information, two people died. Before he knew it, he got mixed up into a political scandal putting his life at risk including the lives of those people he gets to hang out with. Wanting to know what's going on he confronted Mr Carter who pulled out his candidacy for mayor.Easy found out the people who were after Daphne was working for Mr Terrell who is running for Mayor. Correta and Daphne are good friends and Correta has those photos that Mr Terrell was after. Daphne was willing to pay for those photos but Correta implied she will sell it to Mr Terell at bigger price. Daphne asked a friend to just scare Correta but accidentally killed her instead. Correta secured the photos in a safe place before dying. Daphne made everyone believe Frank was his boyfriend and she is a two timer but turns out he is her black half brother. Easy learns that Daphne hid from Carter because of her association with Frank Green, her half-brother. Daphne's Creole mother from New Orleans had given birth to two children by different fathers, and although Daphne's own father was white, her half-brother's father was black. Being the fiancée of a mayoral favorite with partial African-American heritage would ensure a loss for Carter. Terell's knowledge of this fact is the reason Carter dropped out of the race. Naturally, pictures of Terell with children would cause him to drop out, bringing Carter victory. Daphne and Carter separated. Easy brought her to her brothers apartment. A few days after, easy is being haunted by conscience and decided to give half of the money Carter paid him for the photo but upon returning , they have already moved out. Easy decided to use his money to put up a private investigation job or business with his friend Mouse in mind. It was implied in the end that no matter how you have that friend who do bad things, they are all you've got. MY REVIEW It's another movie with a deeper purpose from brilliant actors! It was very interesting and surprising from beginning to end. I guess the issue of racism today against black people is not the same anymore ( well maybe sometimes it is). I mean people are eventually becoming more and more open minded today and that includes benefits black people are now enjoying. We have Obama as the first black president. We have mostly black people dominating the music and movie industry. We have the most influential and one of the richest person Oprah,a black woman. I mean they are now allowed the same freedom white people have but I am pretty sure RACISM is still an issue today in a different way. But it doesn't come just like that.I'm pretty sure these accomplished black people today have fought their way up.Some even want to be successfully visible so that they can stand up and speak for their own kind or just for people in general who are undergoing the same struggle. If it wasn't for people who really cares and fought hard for their freedom like Martin Luther King then I'm not even sure if they are as free as they are now. FOR A GOOD CAUSE I am referring specifically to those very few actors and film makers who have to take risks by doing films they know will make NOT make big profit but still do it anyway. I am talking about independent directors, writers , film producers who took the risk and collaborated to some actors to produce a work that have their good intentions to encourage, uplift and inspire. Those who give and support charities secretly. Those don't do a small thing and go ANNOUNCING what they did. Because of these people's care and sacrifices, people get to understand things that they don't get to deal with everyday. As a result,we become more supportive, understanding and caring. BOTTOMLINE This movie is an inspiration for me. It doesn't take one to be black to be able to identify with the issues being tackled on this movie such as RACISM,corruption and political scandals.(which is by the way a past time of our politicians here in the Philippines) I'm fully aware I haven't really reviewed the actual movie but my emotions got in the way so I just wrote whatever I have in mind right after watching it. How about ending my blog with her face so you have something to smile or even fantasize about, well only if you are a massive fan of hers.
Gosh,I could not believe this woman is 51 and she looks just like this? Did she made a pact with the devil for eternal youthful life?! Ah,I seriously need to stop. You be good and stay awesome! Like her...
