A film directed by Joyce Bernal starring Robin Padilla,A senator who was fugitive for 10,000 hrs due to extreme corruption in the goverment. This is a movie inspired by true events of the philippine political system that points to high corruption and twisted law in the government. Robin had improved hugely in his personal life and acting career as he seemed to focus now on representing a movie that raises and addresses social awareness. He did say his experience in prison changed him for the better. He already had the bad boy walk and that irresistable charm to ladies but he seemed to chose which movies he starred in. This is the first movie ever that I saw him play the role of a politician.Though there are still fight scenes involved, atleast his acting has gone into a different level. He made me cry a lot.He made me cry when he got of the plane, drop his jacket and touch the ground for a long time and his family where there waiting for him. Before I do my review, can I please devote some time for a Robin appreciation... Was this a Senator Lacson inspired look? It felt like a Sir Chief look and I super like it! Fresh look of Robin! Ahhh,my heart is skipping :D I loved Robin since I was a little girl.So far,he's the only one I have a ridiculous crush on locally. My brothers used to watch most of his movies and he always play the bad boy womanizer role. Come to think off, their movies back in the day were mostly fighting goons who kidnapped a beautiful rich girl. I adorw him hugely because of the chemistry he have with his leading ladies and the way he treated them uniquely. He's now pass the "matinee hunk idol" and he's trying different roles now.He might have matured in age but his boy next door charm didn't fade away. I love the new Robin all the more. He's using his talent and occupation as an actor to help raise awareness. He stayed in showbiz this long and still get the same praise and respect from people he's work with because that's just how he is. I was watching the interview she and Vina had last month and Vina gave credit to Robin for the things she learn on how to deal with people. So far,all the people he's work with say the same thing about him. He's humble, sweet, best lover, generous spiritual and now he don't smoke and drink anymore! He's a devoted protective father to her kids. He send his kids to best schools,he wanted them to have those that he didn't have. He's also into full organic diet! Wow,I might have stalk him real hard. Anyway, going back to the movie now... I'm proud this movie is directed by a woman! In Hollywood, women directors in general usually wasn't given that same role and respect to film such kind of movie as men does. I'm also glad, there's still hope in local films. I noticed though that the fight scenes in the movie was a bit non realistic.Sure he had background in military but the chasing scene between him and Interpol and the reporter with a gun in Amsterdam seemed to be a bit too much. How did she possibly get past security airport with a gun? I just feel like it ruined the good catchy story they put up in the begging.Other than that, the plot is good. I'm happy that there are people in the movie industry who use their position to influence society and raise awareness.I'm also glad that people today are more inquisitive and more vocal.I'm glad local film makers are being challenged through these feed backs that some of them step up and make relevant movies that will actually help our society even if they know these kind of movies doesn't usually make money during MMFF. I love how the movie emphasized on "knowing your rights" as a citizen so people will not abuse you. I remember Robin's interview with ANC where he said, " humble dapat tayo pero wag tayo papaapi" to which Ms Davila added," humbleness doesn't mean letting other people take advantage of you" and I found that empowering as a citizen of this country run by very very corrupt government officials. I think one absolute truth spoken about the movie was standing for what is right and really fighting for it. I'm sure it's hard to fight corruption no matter how much you wanted to correct the system if no one wants to correct it with you. Anyways, the scenes are intense and really hard.I'm not sure if this is inspired by Panfilo Lacson as I always here people on the armed forces say he is a good man but then he's accuse of lots of things. I cried a lot for the family who suffered as a consequence. His kids are humiliated, his wife put in danger and the amount of stress, worry, shame and danger they face each day.
No one knows the truth. The country relies on watching news which are mostly twisted too.I sometimes think local media are corrupt too. They cover in the name of rating and popularity where they forget to cover the truth amd failing to focus on what really matters. Wow,with things going on in our country,I think this is a brave selfless act from the movie industry and I thank them for that. Kudos! Keep up and more to come.
